Fourteen minors fled their homes from gunfire and explosions without their parents. Overnight, \u017diva and Tomo became their legal guardians \u2013 their Slovenian parents.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row-full-width vc_clearfix\"><\/div><div id=\"ut-row-6aecf6a7c2ada\" data-vc-full-width=\"true\" data-vc-full-width-init=\"false\" class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid vc_column-gap-0 ut-row-6aecf6a7c2ae4\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\" ><div id=\"ut_inner_column_6aecf6a7c3020\" class=\"vc_column-inner\" ><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\r\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\r\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\r\n\t\t\t<div class=\"dc-text-paragraph\">We meet on Friday, 1 July, at noon in the scorching sun near\u00a0<em>SNG<\/em>\u00a0Ljubljana Opera and Ballet, where \u017diva works.\u00a0<span id=\"dc-kw-match-540\" class=\"dc-kw-match\">\u017diva Ploj Per\u0161uh<\/span>\u00a0also artistic director of the Slovenian National Youth Concert, together with her husband Tomo Per\u0161uh , a music producer, says that it all began on an ordinary family evening when they saw footage on television of a destroyed music academy in Ukraine, where promising young people had practised, studied and played every day \u2013 just like those \u017diva teaches here. She contacted the conductor of the Ukrainian youth orchestra, Oksana Liniv, to ask how they could help, and Oksana asked them to help get as many young musicians as possible out of the country.<\/div>\n<div class=\"dc-text-paragraph\">Tomo called an acquaintance from Maribor, the humanitarian Uro\u0161 Dokl , who has years of experience with refugee children from crisis areas in the Middle East. He agreed immediately, and the City of Ljubljana, without hesitation, provided two buses and four drivers and arranged the first temporary accommodation. On Friday, 5 March, the Slovenian humanitarian mission set off on the 800-kilometre journey.<\/div>\n<div class=\"dc-text-paragraph\">&#8220;Now they are safe, they are playing, they have got their soul back,&#8221; Tomo Per\u0161uh recalls of the Ukrainian musicians\u2019 first rehearsals on Slovenian soil. &#8220;A symphony orchestra usually has a set line-up; we enlarged it, stretched it and, in short, adapted it as far as we possibly could, so that each of them has the chance to perform and each of them can go on tour . If someone cannot manage more than two notes, then they will play two notes \u2013 involvement and inclusiveness are the guiding principle of this entire integration process,&#8221; says \u017diva Per\u0161uh Ploj.<\/div>\n<div class=\"dc-text-paragraph\">What \u017diva and Tomo are doing is not evacuation; these are not just refugees \u2013 it is integration. A holistic approach to young people united by music. Ljubljana is not just a city where they wait in safety for the war to end, but a place where they learn music &#8230; and life.
