On this occasion, the President was joined in the address by Marijan Kri\u017eman, President of the Union of Associations of Combatants for the Values of the National Liberation Struggle of Slovenia.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"vc_row-full-width vc_clearfix\"><\/div><div id=\"ut-row-6aed108605493\" data-vc-full-width=\"true\" data-vc-full-width-init=\"false\" class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid vc_column-gap-0 ut-row-6aed1086054a0\" ><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\" ><div id=\"ut_inner_column_6aed108605d0e\" class=\"vc_column-inner\" ><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\r\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\r\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\r\n\t\t\t<div class=\"dc-text-paragraph\">\n<div class=\"dc-text-paragraph\">\n<div class=\"dc-text-paragraph\">\n<p>In his main speech on the national holiday, the President congratulated citizens and Slovenians at home and around the world, with his best wishes for a peaceful, beautiful and secure future. He said that today's holiday celebrates the spirit of resistance, as twice in our recent and more recent history Slovenians have stood up to an occupier. \u201cResistance, it seems, has become part of our national character through our maturing as a nation,\u201d said President Pahor, stressing that a nation that is morally in the right will always prevail in the end in the struggle against an occupier, regardless of its military might.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"dc-text-paragraph\">\n<p>\u201cThis holds true today and it holds true for the war in Ukraine, where the Ukrainian people are morally in the right,\u201d he said, stressing that in Slovenia we wish for the suffering in Ukraine to end as soon as possible, for peace to prevail, and for the disputes, complications and differences between the two neighbouring countries to be resolved peacefully.\u00a0<em>\"In<\/em>\u00a0this sense, may our national holiday today, when we celebrate the uprising against the occupier, be a call for solidarity with the Ukrainian people, and at the same time a call for peace and for the peaceful resolution of this conflict and of all conflicts around the world, so that Europe and the international community may enjoy the peace and security that children deserve, so that they can develop their talents and dream their dreams,\u201d said the President.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"dc-text-paragraph\">\n<p>In his holiday address, President Pahor also stressed how important it is not to forget the most glorious days of our history, as we draw our national courage and moral credo from them. \u201cThese glorious historical events include the Partisan movement in the middle of the last century, which, in cooperation with the Allies, succeeded in liberating Europe from the fascist and Nazi yoke,\u201d he said, recalling the Declaration on Reconciliation prepared by the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts for Slovenia's 30th anniversary, which states, among other things, that no one may deny the Partisan movement its patriotic impulse and legitimacy, but that there were also acts of which we cannot be proud and which remind us of the civil conflict in which brother raised his hand against brother. \u201cA democratically mature nation that is capable of living with its own history draws from it what is glorious as inspiration for the future, and what is inglorious as a reminder not to repeat its mistakes,\u201d said the President, stressing at the end of his address that we Slovenians learn. \u201cWhile we stood on opposite sides in the middle of the Second World War, this did not happen when we were gaining independence and defending the decision to establish our own state. At that time, also aware of the danger of renewed fratricidal conflict, we came together and defended our homeland, our state, which we preserve and develop today for the interests and dreams of our children and their children,\u201d President Pahor concluded his address on the national holiday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"dc-text-paragraph\">\n<p>Marijan Kri\u017eman thanked the President for the opportunity, as President of the Union of Associations of Combatants for the Values of the National Liberation Struggle of Slovenia, to speak at the Presidential Palace on such an important holiday as the Day of Uprising Against Occupation. \u201cThe Liberation Front remains a living memory in the Slovenian nation of the moment when the Slovenian people decided to rise up against four occupiers,\u201d said Mr Kri\u017eman, adding that today's holiday teaches and reminds us that we have always achieved our goals whenever we decided to do so together. Mr Kri\u017eman further emphasised that the arc of liberation from General Maister through the National Liberation Struggle led to an independent Slovenia. \u201cPeace is a priceless value that nothing can replace,\u201d Mr Kri\u017eman stressed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"dc-text-paragraph\">\n<p>On the occasion of the holiday, the Presidential Palace was visited by representatives of the leadership of the Union of Associations of Combatants for the Values of the National Liberation Struggle of Slovenia and representatives of the Coordination of Patriotic and Veterans' Organisations of Slovenia, as well as numerous visitors from all over Slovenia.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"dc-text-paragraph\">\n<p>The musical programme was provided by young Ukrainian musicians who have taken refuge here from the Russian aggression and the brutal conditions of war in their homeland, and who, together with their Slovenian peers, are preparing a major charity concert entitled \u201c<span id=\"dc-kw-match-4506\" class=\"dc-kw-match\">Music for the Future<\/span>\u201d under the direction of\u00a0<span id=\"dc-kw-match-4537\" class=\"dc-kw-match\">\u017diva Ploj Per\u0161uh<\/span>, the acclaimed Slovenian opera and symphonic conductor.
