Slovenian conductor\u00a0<\/span>\u017diva Ploj Per\u0161uh<\/span><\/b>\u00a0conducted, at the Vienna\u00a0<\/span>Musikverein<\/span><\/b>\u00a0a concert by the orchestra\u00a0<\/span>Wiener Concert-Verein<\/span><\/b>, with which the ensemble officially closed this year's concert season. The programme was conceived as a synergy of rarely performed works from music history and contemporary compositions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The soloist was the Austrian pianist\u00a0<\/span>Philipp Scheucher<\/span><\/b>, and in the first half the orchestra was also joined by a trombone quartet made up of Otmar Gaiswinkler, Matthias Reindl, Jonathan Helm and Dominik Schnaitt.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n\r\n\t

A world premiere and contemporary works on the programme<\/h1>\n

The centrepiece of the first half of the concert was the world premiere of\u00a0<\/span>Beltane \u2013 helles Feuer, Konzert f\u00fcr Klavier und Streichorchester<\/span><\/i>, by the contemporary Austrian composer\u00a0<\/span>Johanna Doderer<\/span><\/b>. The performance of the new work met with a very positive response from the audience and subscribers. After the concert, the orchestra's management highlighted a letter from one of its regular subscribers, who wrote:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThank you so much for a wonderful concert. For the first time, it was the world premiere itself that was the absolute highlight of the evening. I have never heard such a weighty and structurally taut work, one that keeps the listener in constant anticipation. Please programme more works by Ms Doderer. I would also particularly like to stress how much we value the introductory talks on the pieces, as they bring us new knowledge and insight into the world of music.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Alongside Johanna Doderer's work, the orchestra also performed in the first half\u00a0<\/span>Concertino f\u00fcr Posaunenquartett und Orchester<\/span><\/i>\u00a0by the Dutch composer Jan Koetsier.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The close of the evening<\/h3>\n

The second half of the concert was devoted to late Romantic string repertoire. Under the baton of \u017diva Ploj Per\u0161uh, the orchestra first performed\u00a0<\/span>Serenade for Strings<\/span><\/i>\u00a0by the Venezuelan composer Teresa Carre\u00f1o, and the programme officially concluded with a performance of\u00a0<\/span>Serenade for Strings in E major, Op. 22<\/span><\/i>, by Anton\u00edn Dvo\u0159\u00e1k.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The official programme was followed by two encores. Pianist Philipp Scheucher performed\u00a0<\/span>Ballade No. 2 in B minor<\/span><\/i>\u00a0by Franz Liszt, and the orchestra under the Slovenian conductor closed the evening with a repeat of the final movement of Teresa Carre\u00f1o's string serenade.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After the event, the management of the Wiener Concert-Verein publicly thanked the entire technical team, the staff of the Musikverein, the soloists, the composer and conductor \u017diva Ploj Per\u0161uh for their expert performance and interpretation of a demanding concert programme.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n
