Péter Palotai is a Hungarian Norwegian double bassist and teacher. He is currently principal bass in the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra in Pécs, Hungary. He is also a regular guest principal bass in the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Ferenc Erkel Chamber Orchestra in Hungary.

Péter studied double bass in Budapest in the St. Stephen conservatory and the Ferenc Liszt College/Academy. He was then member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra where he had the opportunity to play under the leadership of Claudio Abbado, Franz Welser-Möst, Pierre Boulez, Kent Nagano, Seiji
Ozawa and Daniele Gatti. From 2001 he was substitute in the Camerata Salzburg and member of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2007 he was a bassist in the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in Norway. In 2021 he moved back to Hungary with his family and started his new job as
principal bass in the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra.

In Bergen, Péter was a dedicated music teacher from 2011 at the Grieg Academy and at the Bergen Culture School as well.
