The final concert will take place on 23 August as part of the Ljubljana Festival at Križanke, where they will be joined by the German singer Ute Lemper as soloist.

Two years ago, the Slovenian Youth Orchestra performed with Katalena at the Ljubljana Festival.

The Summer Orchestra Camp, organised by the Slovenian Youth Orchestra with conductor Živa Ploj Peršuh, is beginning in Ljubljana. Over the course of a week, the young musicians will study music from Berlin to Broadway. The final concert will take place on 23 August as part of the Ljubljana Festival at Križanke, where they will be joined by the German singer Ute Lemper as soloist.

Over a career spanning more than 40 years, the German cabaret diva Ute Lemper has left an indelible mark. She has established herself as a versatile artist on theatre and concert stages and in films, and has more than 35 albums to her name. She made her debut in the original Vienna production of Cats in the roles of Grizabella and Bombalurina. She was also nominated for a Grammy Award for the CD Berlin Days/Paris Nights.

The Summer Orchestra Camp is intended for young musicians aged 12 to 22, who, during a week of training in music and improvisation, also discover other arts such as theatre and expressive dance.

Around a hundred musicians from all over Slovenia are accepted onto the summer programme, and this year they have been joined by young Ukrainian musicians who found refuge in Slovenia last year. Ten places have been reserved for musicians whose families suffered damage in the recent floods.

From the Wednesday after the holiday, when they gathered, until 23 August, when the final concert takes place, the young musicians are working at the St Stanislaus Institution in Šentvid. Through music they will travel from Berlin to Broadway together with one of the most popular vocalists of musical theatre, the German chanteuse Ute Lemper.

They will be able to take part in workshops such as theatre improvisation, musical improvisation, singing and creative movement. They will be prepared for the final concert by Slovenian performers, teachers and musicians who also work abroad, including Kristina Oberžan, Gregor Krmac, Matjaž Drevenšek and Petra Vidmar.

The Slovenian Youth Orchestra was founded in 2019 in cooperation with international and Slovenian partners. Each year the orchestra invites new members, giving them the opportunity to become acquainted with the work of a professional musician. Through the Summer Orchestra Camp, they are brought together into an ad hoc symphony orchestra. Last year the orchestra was admitted to the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras.
