ORCHESTRA
ORCHESTRA
The Slovenian Youth Orchestra is a project of cooperation, enthusiasm, and a vision for the future, bringing together promising
young musicians.
It was founded in 2019 in collaboration with international and local partners. The SMO Artistic Board consists of Prof. Janez Podlesek, Prof. Maja Marija Rome, Prof. Gal Faganel and conductor and artistic director Živa Ploj Peršuh.
SMO
FOR YOU
The orchestra acts as a platform for peer-to-peer cooperation. We create a network of Slovenian talents at home and abroad and promote peer-to-peer networking and cooperation. In the summer we open our doors to the youngest musicians (from the age of 12), in the autumn we open auditions for new SMO members (from the age of 16), and we give the most promising ones the opportunity to participate in international programmes.
WHY
SMO
With its diverse projects, the orchestra bridges the gap between formal education, which focuses on technique and theory, and the realities of the profession. It is the only project of its kind in the country that allows young musicians to experience first-hand all aspects of life as a professional musician - from selecting projects to auditioning, from preparation and rehearsals to concerts on the most prestigious stages.
SMO
FOR EDUCATION
SMO musicians prepare programmes in multi-day residencies, where we connect them with leading professional orchestral musicians and collaborating artists. They then present the programmes in representative concerts here and abroad, while acting as dynamic musical ambassadors. Our major educational programme is the highly creative Summer Orchestra Camp, which engages and enthuses musicians from the age of 12.
SMO
FOR NETWORKING
SMO was accepted as a full member of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras (EFNYO) in June 2022. We look forward to working more closely with other youth national orchestras. This enables, among other things, SMO members to travel on exchange to other youth orchestras' projects. We look forward to participating at several levels in local and European projects and to being placed on the European map of youth musical excellence.
