CAFÉ EUROPA – NEW CHAMBER OPERA PERFORMED BY THE LJUBLJANA INTERNATIONAL ORCHESTRA

The Ljubljana International Orchestra will present within the frame work of the European project Sounds of Change the premiere performance of the chamber opera Café Europa, composed by the Austrian composer Christoph Renhart based on the libretto Between Memories by the author Alexandre HonradoThe opera explores collective memory and portrays European identity through mythological, philosophical, and literary premises – all through the lens of an intimate yet fantastical setting in a café owned by Europa herself. 

Café Europa is being created as part of the European collaboration Sounds of Change, which, with the support of the EU, connects young musicians, composers, directors, and cultural organisations from several countries. The project’s goal is to address social change through art and foster cultural dialogue. 

The opera is the result of an intensive creative process that took place in September in Portugal. The Austrian premiere will take place on 8th October 2025 in the concert hall Alban Berg Konzertsaal in Ossiach (Austria).
