Meet Gleb and Ukraine’s youth orchestra in exile in Slovenia – BBC News

Talented musicians have found refuge in Slovenia from the storm of war. The British media are also reporting on the Slovenian conductor’s successful operation.

Soon after the war in Ukraine began, an operation was launched to rescue the children of one of the country’s orchestras from the turmoil of war. The Slovenian conductor Živa Ploj Peršuh. The story of 140 people who found refuge in Slovenia is also covered by the British BBC.

The members of the orchestra and their relatives have been in Slovenia since the beginning of March. “The journey was hard. On the train we couldn’t open the windows or turn on the lights,” says 10-year-old Gleb, describing the journey, on which he took his recorder with him. They had to leave most of their belongings behind at home, including their pets.

The older members of the orchestra have formed a youth orchestra with which they hope to perform across Europe in the coming months. The younger musicians are rehearsing together for a performance for President Borut Pahor. “When I sing, I feel so light. Music is my best friend,” 10-year-old Gleb told BBC .

Živa Ploj Peršuh told the aforementioned outlet that they want the children to feel loved and valued. “They deserve it. They are young, bright, talented,” she stresses. She cannot imagine being in their situation. “I have a seven-year-old son. I can’t imagine having to get on a train with him, with a plastic bag in my hand, perhaps a teddy bear, a phone, documents, and that’s it.”

The children are determined to be musical ambassadors for Ukraine until they can return to their homeland.
