A concert tour in which Tilen Artač, maestro of comedy and cellist, steps into the role of conductor for the first time and shatters the stereotypes of classical music!
Armed with a cello and a baton, he and the Slovenian Youth Orchestra will create a concert full of laughter and superb melodies.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Tilen Artač, grandmaster of impersonation but above all a conservatoire-trained musician, is this time joining forces with the Slovenian Youth Orchestra. As part of the Klasični Artač tour, he is entering territory that has not yet suffered his intervention – in front of the orchestra. With cello and baton, he will invite the audience on a stroll through the evergreen repertoire of timeless classics.
Tilen Artač, all-round artist and host of the Slovenian Philharmonic podcast 1,2,3 bis!, will face the ultimate challenge – the orchestra – in a very special evening happening, Klasični Artač. With cello and baton, he will invite the audience on a stroll through the evergreen repertoire of timeless classics, while the Slovenian Youth Orchestra will enrich the evening with its virtuosity and musical refinement.
“I am really looking forward to performing with the Slovenian Youth Orchestra. Classical music is my home, as I have been devoted to it since early childhood,” said Tilen Artač, adding that concerts of this kind should be offered to audiences more often.
On this comic musical journey, the repertoire will feature classics such as the evergreen New Year's concert hit the Radetzky March, Eine kleine Nachtmusik, Nessun dorma and many others. With a smile on his face, he added: “Of course, I expect understanding and support from the orchestra. I hope the young, talented musicians won't carry me off the stage as a conductor after a few rehearsals. I'm aware I won't exactly be Riccardo Muti – I'll just be Riccardo Malmuti.”
The orchestra will be led by its conductor and founder Živa Ploj Peršuh, who emphasised that the main aim is to create a relaxed and unifying concert experience. “We are delighted that this collaboration is an inspiration to everyone, because artists and musicians – especially the young musicians of the Slovenian Youth Orchestra – must think about their audience and about music as a moment when it speaks powerfully to the audience, suggests things to it, soothes it and stirs it,” she added.
The tour will start on 6 September at the Braslovče Cultural Centre and will continue in Laško, Lendava, Rogaška Slatina and Sežana. Tilen Artač and his 50-piece orchestra will also perform at the Slovenian Philharmonic, Maribor's Union Hall, Krško, Žalec and Velenje.
About the Slovenian Youth Orchestra
In our region, the Slovenian Youth Orchestra is a unique project that offers young musicians first-hand experience of being a professional musician. Under the artistic direction of its founder, the conductor Živa Ploj Peršuh, it brings together young people aged between 16 and 26, who are given the chance to achieve the most high-profile results and, with drive, determination, courage and will, to strengthen musical, cultural and social bridges. The orchestra was founded in 2019 in collaboration with numerous international and domestic partners, guided by the belief that music is a universal language understood by all, regardless of nationality, religion or other personal circumstances! The orchestra's hallmark is its varied annual programmes, prepared during a summer residency of several days under the guidance of leading professional orchestral musicians and then performed publicly at the end of the gathering. In recent years the ensemble has performed in more than ten countries and taken on the most demanding repertoire. Outstanding projects certainly include Music For The Future – a social project charged with the superpower of music for young Ukrainian musicians in distress, ALARM – a concert for social and climate justice, a performance of Vivaldi's [uncertain] four seasons at the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP26 in Glasgow as part of the United Nations campaign ACT NOW CAMPAIGN and JUST1PLANET – concerts for a green future, co-produced with the Ljubljana Festival, RTV SLOVENIA and the Care4Climate project. In 2022 the orchestra was admitted to full membership of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras (EFNYO).
Tilen Artač, conservatoire-trained musician and impressionist
Tilen Artač was born in 1985 in Ljubljana. In June 2007 he graduated with a master's degree from the Academy of Music in Zagreb under Professor Valter Dešpalj. He continued his musical education at the University of Music in Graz with Professor Rudolf Leopold, and studied chamber music with Professor Chia Chou.
As a soloist and chamber musician he has performed at home and abroad: Moscow, Helsinki, Brussels, Vienna (Musikverein), Amsterdam (Cello Biennale 2008), Paris, London, Dubrovnik. He has appeared as a soloist with the Zagreb Philharmonic in the Vatroslav Lisinski Great Hall in Zagreb, with the United orchestra at the Bled Festival in 2008 and 2009, and with the Festival Maribor orchestra in 2012.
Since 2004 he has been a member of the team of impressionists and creators of the radio show Radio GA GA, where, as an impressionist, he has portrayed numerous characters and, with a seasoned sense of humour, added a special charm to the popular radio show. His sparkling wit and talent for impersonation have become indispensable. He is the winner of the third season of the show Znan obraz ima svoj glas, the most-watched show of spring 2016 on POP TV.
From 2004 to 2010 he also took part in the television show HRI-bar under the baton of radio and television legend Sašo Hribar. In 2012 he received the Frane Milčinski – Ježek Award, which RTV Slovenija presents to those most deserving for original achievements or a body of work in those genres of radio and television creativity that follow the tradition of Ježek's noble spirit.
He is currently continuing the tradition of the show Radio GA GA, and on television screens he can be seen in the show Kaj dogaja?.
