Together with Tilen Artač, the Slovenian Youth Orchestra experienced something extraordinary at Cankarjev dom : all four performances of the Klasični Artač project were sold out. For us this is much more than a statistic – it is a clear message that audiences believe in classical music and in young musicians who know how to speak in a contemporary, witty and sincere musical language.

We thank everyone who filled the Linhart Hall of Cankarjev dom, and everyone who followed us on last year's Klasični Artač tour around Slovenia. Your laughter, applause and standing ovations are the strongest confirmation for the Slovenian Youth Orchestra that a project combining Tilen Artač's humour with the orchestral power of young people has a special place in Slovenia's cultural landscape.
Why is Klasični Artač important for the SMO?
Klasični Artač is not “just another” concert programme. It is a project in which:
- the Slovenian Youth Orchestra performs as a full-blooded symphony orchestra,
- Tilen Artač, with his wit and musicality, opens the door to classical music even for those who rarely visit concert halls,
- we bring together listeners in the same hall: young musicians, experienced professionals and a broad audience, from primary school pupils to loyal Cankarjev dom subscribers.
For our musicians this is a valuable experience: they have to navigate the programme entirely independently, learning how to sound serious and top-class while taking part in a show that is dynamic, playful and a little unpredictable every time.
The national musical team at the heart of the capital
As the national youth “musical team”, we are proud that Klasični Artač lives at Cankarjev dom – Slovenia's central cultural institution. Sold-out evenings mean that the public recognises the Slovenian Youth Orchestra as an orchestra that is capable of, and deserves, the most prestigious stages; young musicians receive a clear signal that their efforts are worthy of attention; and projects combining classical music, humour and topical issues have a firm place in Slovenia.
