With the wholehearted support of the City Municipality of Ljubljana, Perutnina Ptuj and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, the Slovenian Youth Orchestra is organising the evacuation of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (YsOU)

The Slovenian Youth Orchestra (SMO), with the orchestra's artistic director and conductor of the Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet Ljubljana, Živa Ploj Peršuh, has responded to the urgent appeal for help from the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (YsOU), led by the internationally renowned Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv, who is also artistic director of the Teatro Bologna. With the help of the City Municipality of Ljubljana, which will assist with transport and accommodation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, which will provide logistical and administrative support, and Perutnina Ptuj, which will help with food and funding, SMO will bring the first 95 musicians to Slovenia tomorrow, Sunday.

Accommodation in hostels, later with families

The young musicians of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, aged up to 18, will travel to Ljubljana with their chaperones, where we will accommodate them in hostels; later they will be placed with families and volunteers. Once they are settled, the Slovenian Youth Orchestra, together with YsOU, will organise as many musical activities as possible for them, as well as an orchestra camp where they will be able to practise and play with their Slovenian peers.

Those interested can offer accommodation on the SMO website – www.smo.ngo. Donations from companies and individuals will be collected on the website to further fund food, basic necessities, accommodation, assistance for underage musicians, translation and musical activities.

The Slovenian Youth Orchestra will also hold a press conference next week and provide updates on further developments, SMO announced.
