On the occasion of World Refugee Day, a panel was held on 20 June to highlight the importance of culture and creativity in the integration of refugees. Organised by Apis and Terra Vera and hosted by the Trubar House of Literature, the event brought together cultural institutions, NGOs, integration stakeholders and call for proposals in the field of culture and vulnerable groups.
The event also featured a presentation of the initiative "Music for the Future: Ukraine. Slovenia. Europe". The project, co-founded by Živa Ploj Peršuh, conductor, musicologist and artistic director of the Slovenian Youth Orchestra, was initiated as an evacuation intervention for Ukrainian youth musicians during the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine in 2022. Since then, it has grown into an artistic, donation, solidarity and integration project.
Živa Ploj Peršuh presented at the panel how the Music for the Future project not only offers support to young musicians, but also promotes their artistic growth and integration into Slovenian society. Her contribution was an important part of the debate on how culture, art and creativity contributes to greater social inclusion of refugees and asylum seekers.
