Collaboration with double bass virtuoso Knut Erik Sundquist

Sodelovanje s Knutom Erikom Sundquistom

Performances of works by Nordic composers Lars-Erik Larsson, Carl Nielsen, Edward Grieg and Jean Sibelius are rare in this country, with the exception of Grieg's compositions. The unconventional Norwegian double bassist Knut Erik Sundquist has prepared just such a programme with LIO.

Sundquist, who follows the rule that "tradition is not binding", also appeared as soloist and conductor, with Gregory Ahss as concertmaster.

As one of Norway's finest double bassists, Knut Erik Sundquist was a member of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra for seven years. He now performs regularly with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Chamber Orchestra under Claudio Abbado. He has also played with the Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt and, when at home in Harstad in northern Norway, with the local military orchestra. He received the Jury Prize at the Northern Lights Festival for the achievements of his musical career, and his professional colleagues say that he has complete control of the double bass, both musically and technically, and that he is able to bring out an elegantly clear sound from the instrument.
