ORCHESTRA ACADEMY - INTERNATIONAL RESIDENCY FOR THE TRAINING OF ORCHESTRAL MUSICIANS

The Orchestral Academy was attended by 75 auditioned musicians, aged 18-28, who were looking for professional jobs and opportunities at the end of their formal education. Seven professors mentored and taught the young musicians in sectional and individual rehearsals. The symphonic programmes included some of the most important works of 19th and 20th century orchestral literature. Among the symphonic music written by geniuses such as Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Verdi and Wagner, this season we focused on some of the most precious operatic works. The conductors were Živa Ploj Peršuh from Slovenia and Carlo Rizzari from Italy. Soprano Urška Breznik and tenor Aljaž Farasin from Slovenia joined us for inspiring duets from Puccini's Madama Butterfly. The extensive programme took 13 days - 102 hours of rehearsals.

Programme

J. Brahms: Tragic Overture, L. van Beethoven: Symphony No 4 in B flat Major, op. 60 R. Wagner: Siegfried's Idyll, G. Puccini: Madam Butterfly, excerpts, G. Rossini: Semiramide, overture, G. Verdi: Vespri siciliani, overture, H. Berlioz: Carnival in Rome, R. Schumann: Symphony No 2 in C Major, op. 61

Conclusion: there is a growing need for livestreaming, so our organisation will facilitate a training session with a camera director at the Digital Concert Hall in Berlin. New work has been commissioned and all partners have committed to delivering it.

The transfer of expertise and performance practices to young people is an important and recognised key activity, and the Ljubljana International Orchestra has been invited to expand its activities and to undertake more joint projects with partners. Participants of the workshop watched a performance of Committed to Steps and met with Darko Brlek, Director of the Ljubljana Festival.
